Lean Cuisine Salad Additions

Disclaimer: I’m a member of a site called BzzAgent, in which I get to try things for free or deeply discounted. They send me an email when I qualify for a campaign and I get to decide if I want to participate. If so, I get coupons or products, or both, to try out.

I tried this last week, but a stomach flu hit our house and I haven’t been able to post about it yet.  I bought 2 of these using my BzzAgent coupons (they were 2/$6 at Kroger).  These are interesting. First, they are in the freezer section.  You heat up the chicken & vegetable packet and put that in with your own lettuce.  I like that aspect – that you have a choice in lettuce options. The options are Asian-style chicken, Bistro Chicken, Cranberry & Chicken, and Southwest-style Chicken. I bought Asian-style Chicken & Bistro Chicken as they sounded the best to me.

I made the Asian-style Chicken salad.  I heated up the dressing by putting it in a glass of warm water. That didn’t take long to thaw and was ready to pour on my salad when I had everything else ready.  Then I microwaved the chicken & veggie pouch while I got my lettuce out and torn. (I like small lettuce pieces.)  Then you dress your lettuce.

Finished product.

Honestly, it tasted OK, but not spectacular.  The chicken was pretty good and there were tiny chunks of pineapple that I really enjoyed.  I discovered I really don’t like edamame. Bur primarily, it was just such a stark hot/cold contrast that it didn’t work much for me.  The chicken & veggies were just too hot for the lettuce and it all ended up a little wilty. Maybe next time, I’ll let the hot part cool off to room temperature first.  I also thought it was a lot of work for a salad and didn’t have enough dressing.  It certainly is more work than those salad bowls you buy in the produce section, but slightly cheaper if you find a good sale.

  1. I was about to ask where you found them, but then I reread the post. :)

I’m really kinda disappointed in Bzzagent. I’ve been getting a lot of campaigns for foods we just can’t/won’t eat in my house.

Lean Cuisine was a staple for me when I was doing Weight Watchers. It’s just so much easier to track everything when you eat processed food. So I was exited to see these as a different option. But the flavor options didn’t move me too much. I got an excellent deal on them though. $2/6 at Kroger. I used a free one and $1 off coupon so I saved $4 total. Then I got a Catalina for $3 off my next order from Lean Cuisine. Basically, I made $1 buying these.
